Anybody ever fab up their own transfer tank? I'm thinking about getting a couple sheets of metal and fabbing up my own.
I looked into getting an L tank, but I don't want to lose anymore bed space. I was thinking of making one that was 6" deep by "x" tall and then plumbing it in as my rear tank as mine has rusted out at very places.
I'll get you a bump. I don't know about making one but this is what I've got. All I did was put a line into the front tank fill tube and use a small pump. It gravity feeds without the pump so I added a electric shut off valve. The black tank is for my water/meth injection.
Diesel is of course less volatile than gasoline, but I still would be wary of any DIY tank for it. You can get various oversize tanks to replace the rear tank. If you use tank straps, then spacers, and THEN hang the skid plates, you don't have that crevice between the tank and skid plates where all that rustogenic crud builds up.

I wish I could do the oversized rear tank but my cushion hitch is in the way.
I don't think there would be anything to worry about making your own tank. Probably better to TIG it instead of using the MIG so you wouldn't have to worry about pin holes.
