Thats not stupid, I was thinking the same thing! The EBPV wont cause the whitesmoke though.

Actually, if he has a catalytic converter, its probably plugged.

It will usually cause greyish smoke.


He really should check the turbo to make sure its not burnt up.
It should freely spin while inspecting it.

I will check it tomorrow in the morning... So the only sign is free motion or no motion?

Take the intake boot off and reach your hand inside.
Grab ahold of the end and see how much it wiggles.
It should move just slightly.
not much.
Then take it and try and spin it like you'd do a pinwheel.
It should freely spin easily and keep spinning.


if the turbo checks out and you have a catalytic converter, I bet your cat is plugged.
