Starting when cold there's a loud banging like a broken motor mount. It starts fine when warm and runs down the road as it should. It has me stumped and thought I'd get a few educated opinion from y'all.

Is it right away or after it's been running at high idle for a few minutes? On my Mustang with smog delete I had a "thumping" noise from under the hood after it was running for a few minutes at high idle with the choke on. Turned out the belt was a little worn, and would "stretch" when it was cold, causing the belt tensioner to thump back and forth.
Actually it when I'm starting it. As it fires up it it sounds as though something is loose and knocking against the engine. I know it sound strange but it just started happening and doesn't happen any other time.
Don't know what it is but the same thing happens to me. On cold days in Milwaukee like it was today at around 0 degrees F when i start it up in the morning for the first time it thumps and knocks, and rattles for a couple seconds. The majority of the obnoxious noise goes away within a few seconds and but the engine knock persists until it is warm but after that runs great. I always just thought it was normal cold starting conditions that caused this but if this is a problem please fill us in.
haha P.S. I hope our symptoms are the same and I'm not starting a whole new topic. Lemme know and I can remove this.
Yeah I remember those cold mornings when we lived in Michigan! It's not the usual clatter but sounds as though something is "banging" around under the hood. Like I said it runs and pulls as it always did...
