Yeah, it's not consistant. To me, it sounds like a sharp tap/click, like someone beat a chunk of metal with a hammer quickly.

Could be, but what?
Alternator runs way too fast. AC isn't on at all. Could be the PS pump, but that usually makes whining noises, and it's also running way too fast.
I'm pretty sure it's engine related, due to the speed of the taps.
Check for play on the water pump. Take belt off the tensioner and see if the fan has any wiggle. Sounds like mine before the water pump went out. Sounds to me like it's something to do with an accessory. Seems to me if it were an internal engine noise there would be more resonance or a more hollow sound, if you will.
Did you look at all your push rods? As they turn they can make an intermittent noise if they are slightly out of spec. Like when lifters on a little motor spin. but our lifters don't turn so that's why I'm thinking push rod.
Although I can't hear it too good as my volume doesn't go up enough, mine has a tick on the drivers side too. Very faint as you can't hear it close to the truck, but from far away you can. It's got 49,000 miles on it, so I doubt it's internal.
I'll be interested to see what it is, and like stated above, an accessory is probably what's causing it.
