Weird Sound(Muffled Explosion?)

My F250 with 6.0 PSD after having oil cooler,EGR cooler, and Egr valve all replaced is making weird sound I can only describe as a muffled explosion. I do not know if I am just paying more attention to my engine after having all the work done, or if this is a new thing? Engine?Truck is making weird sound, seems to be coming from the passenger side of motor.Have to really listen for it at low idle seems to be at 15 to 20 second intervals, can hear it pretty well at high idle, on smooth highway(if you can find one) can hear it fairly well if listening for it. It sounds like a very muffled explosion, there may be a slight variation in RPM but is hard to tell. Any ideas guys?

is it the same muffled explosion the truck makes when you turn the key on but not over and after the fuel pump shuts off sometimes you hear a sound like that?

Duke I am not sure what sound you are referring to for sure but I just went and tried the key on like you spoke of and the only sound I heard was the clicking of the fuel pump and then another sound shutting off followed by a switch like when it ends. But the sound I am describing as an explosion is an actual "popping" sound, very similar to hitting(pretty hard) a crease/crack in the highway, coming from the passenger side of engine compartment.

I know exactly what sound you are talking about! My 04 did the same thing way back when it use to run good and put a smile on my face to drive. Anyway never understood what or where it was coming from but it was very noticeable at Idle and very predictable as way of timing. The your description of the noise is good but the one thing that use to come to mind when I heard it was like a gas powered pressure washer pump building up pressure then bleeding it off. Come to think of it maybe the the lack of this sound on my truck now has something to do with it running like crap now! Maybe a HPOP thing?

Could it be leaking high pressure oil under the valve cover? Sounds like a wierd problem.

EGR valve backed out on me once and made some noise, but it was more of a whine/squeal. Leakage on the manifold made it easy to spot.

You have 4WD on that truck....with electronic selection? Maybe be the air pump on the passenger side fender?

could be jus the vacuum pump solenoid going out if ur talking bout the 4wd. or it could be the vacuum pump itself?

or maybe u needed to bleed some air out? when u change tat oil cooler, or anytime u open up the heads, ur gonna have air in ur system. when work is done, ur gonna need bout 500 miles to completely bleed ur engine of all tat air.

not to make u paranoid, but i dunno if the mechanic torqued everything exactly as per ford specifications. best of luck. hope it dont come back again. i hope everything is alright for u pal.
