3.0 Ranger engine sound
its the same if its cold or warm, pressing the clutch don't make a difference.
I'm not that good with words in English so when trying to describe the sound i cant find the right words. the sound don't seem to follow the rpm.
i can hear it best if the hood is closed and looking at the engine from behind the front left tire, hard to hear from the other side but that's because my exhaust is exiting in front of the rear tire.
as i said when i try revving it i cant hear the sound changing. its not a rattle or squeak, more like a knock. the best i can describe it with is the sound of a older diesel pump at idle, that diesel knock sound.
It don't sound like a injector tic, its a more heavy/hard sound. and not very loud, i have to listen for it to hear it.
It's the first time i hear this sound, i notice sounds like that very quick, sounds that wasn't there before or sounds that an engine shouldn't be making.
sounds like its coming from the back of the engine as i cant hear it from the engine bay.
The truck have 30k miles on it, stock engine. genuine miles.
Any ideas?
ill try and use my other car until i can find out what's making the sound.

Edit: was under the truck now with a screwdriver and when i put it against the oil pan and the other end at my ear i couldn't hear anything abnormal there, so i think its safe to say its not a rod, also i belive the sound would me higher at more rpm if it was a rod. i also checked the valve covers and there is next to no sound there.
the sound is coming from somewhere at the back of the engine thats all i can tell so far.
Could it be a pushrod? this is the first pushrod engine i have ever owned, so i am completely new to this pushrod stuff all the others have been a single overhead cam setup ranging from 4 to 6 cylinders. its also the first V6 engine i own or any v engine for that matter.
I will try and see if my sony handycam can pick up the sound and upload it.
Truck runs great, smooth idle, lots of power and smooth delivery all the way to 5500 rpm
