1996 f350 7.5l dies going down the road?

Hello all
I have a 1996 f350 crew cab that dies sporadically most fo the time while going down the road. I changed the ignition module last week thinking that that was the culprit. I had a spare in my tool box and when it died I swapped them out and the truck restarted. after installing a new one the truck ran fine for the weekend and then died again this morning on the way to work. i always have to let the truck sit for awhile before it will restart. I am currently stumped . the CEL has been coming on and I have received the 211 code PIP fault and the code for egr reduced flow? dont know if that has anything to do with it? any one have any ideas"?

Code 211 pin points the root cause: Two or more successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.

More than likely the PIP aka stator in the distributor is going bad. They typically fail when heated up. Very common issue.

For reference: Fuel Injection Technical Library » Stator (RPM)

OK thank you I was kinda leaning that way, however after replacing the IGM and the truck running fine all weekend I was sorta stumped...I will have to go get a PIP and install it.

Some people choose to replace the distributor. Replacing that PIP sensor is a little tedious. You need a small gear puller to get the distributor drive gear off.

The caveat is many of the "rebuilt" unit have bad PIPs in them because the rebuilder does not heat test it.

Yea thats what I ended up doing after breaking the Dist. Gear trying to get it off. small gear puller wouldn't budge it ( yea I pulled the roll pin) oh well. I have the PIP that i Bought in case this one ends up being bad. thank you for the help I will update tomorrow after the drive to work.
