Front shock removal

I am trying to replace my front shocks I put a pair of vice grips on but the thing kept spinning. I can't seem to get the top bolt off. Anyone have anyother ideas beside cutting them.

If I can't get 'em to spin off with my impact I cut 'em off.

the top of the shaft that the nut goes on should be shaped so you can get a wrench on it to keep it from turning.

If it's for a Gen III, that nut doesn't need to be removed; that's why I asked for a year.
