We pulled the side tank on My son's 96 F250, the screen had come out of the bottom of the umbrella and the plastic/rubber plug came out of the side of the umbrella. It appears to be some kind of 1 way valve?
Can anyone tell me What direction does it go back in?
If you can give me a better description of what you're looking for, I will go take a picture of the sending unit out of my parts truck and send it to you so you have what you need.

180degrees from the circles area in the pic. There is a plug that goes inside there, I need to know if there is a small nub facing out or a bigger orange plug..

OK, does anyone know the part numbers for the rear sending unit and the valve to switch between tanks? I am trying order everything from Rock Auto and their sending units don't REALLY explain what they are for and I dont see the diverter at all.
The switch you're looking for is called a "fuel selector switch" and they are EXPENSIVE! I believe the Ford P/N is : Fuel tank selector valve E5TZ9189B. I wish I still had one to send you, but I sold it to a local guy who needed one for a project he was working on. As far as the sending unit goes, I'm not sure of the part number but if you want one, I have one I will make you a good deal on if you don't mind a used one.
