I'm glad you posted that. I was going to look up Holstien shocks when I finished reading this thread.
For those of you with newer trucks - there are several threads about the Rancho shocks that came on the FX4 stock. They are crap. The dealer changed mine twice, that's three sets I had. They all lost their seals. I finally bought Bilstiens and have had no problems. A lot of people on here have been happy with Rancho 9000XL adjustables also.
So by replacing the shocks the tires didnt cup anymore?.....three sets of shocks and ford said thats it? no more?.....the money we spend on these trucks we shouldnt have to replace the shocks at our cost.....whats the old story.....do it right the first time and be done with it
This morning I posted about the alignment and the rotation thing while waiting for my 29 year old son to come over so we could go 4-wheelin.
Well we went and had a lot of fun until this happened:
Son fell in a washout and snapped the lower A-arm right off the frame. He's ok.
I know this has nothing to do with my truck, but I'm beginning to wonder about this whole Friday 13th weekend thing. First I get a CEL yesterday and now I post in a front end alignment thread and this happens.

My tires never cupped. I did have the death wobble occasionally. My first complaint was the truck would wander on rough roads and the wobble. The dealer replaced the shocks. The second time the dealer suggested I call Ford Customer Assistance and get Ford engineers involved. Ford engineers had them replace the track bar and shocks. It only took about 1000 miles for those shocks to fail. The last time I took it in was for an oil change and I had the dealer put the Bilstiens on for me.
The dealer would have put another set of Ranchos on, but I wanted the Bilstiens.
I am am Extremely happy with Grove Ford. They take care of my vehicles well.
One more point on the Bilstiens. I got the 5100s. Although they straightened out my truck and keep my tires planted firmly on the road, they ride a little stiffer. You may want to do a little research if you're going for a soft ride.
its really great to know what i am in for.....when i go to the dealer.....you wanted the better shocks....did ford apply money towards those new shocks??.....you would think they would recall these trucks to replace there crappy shocks with the real deal shocks
so now i have to go out and see if all the shock seals are blown yet
Nope, they didn't pony up. But I didn't ask them to. I had bought these shocks and had them sitting in the garage waiting for my warranty to run out. But I couldn't wait any longer. I knew what I wanted and needed to travel. I didn't want to deal with the shock issue on the road, far from home, so I just dealt with it.
I went for my appt today, had 10 bucks in ford rewards, so it only cost me 20 bucks for the rotation, and they (the dealer) did the alignment for free. The 12,000 mile number is correct for warrantee on alignment. They didn't even boc at it. The steering wheel is back to perfectly straight again, and tires freshly rotated. Very happy.
I had an off center steering wheel and a pull to the right from day one. Called the dealer and they told me all is normal because the trucks steering is designed to pull right...for safety reason...if I fall asleep while driving, the truck goes off road not across road. Anyway, I've owned 30+ cars/trucks and have never had a vehicle pull. So I physically took it in and had the Service Advisor take a look and they agreed that the alignment was off. Anyway, I had it fixed last week. Now the steering wheel is straight, but it still has a pull. Super annoying! (2012 250 CC lariat FX4 w/ 4K miles).
I'm wondering if new shocks (aftermarket) down the road may correct some of this??

THAT DOESNT SEEM RIGHT.....HES BLOWING SMOKE UP YOUR A$$
I HAD A EMAIL FROM MY FORD GARAGE THAT MY OIL CHANGE WAS OVER DUE....call them and told them my computor in the truck didnt say service engine soon yet and told him my front tires are cupping at 5400 miles....told me he will rotate them....he should align it also....right??
my truck had a pull to, had it aligned and it still pulled, when I rotated the tires the pull went away. this was with the factory general tires. general tires are the crappiest tires I have ever seen.
