Questions regarding a DP tuner

Firstly, I'm buying a used F6. The guy I'm buying it from has single shot injectors and of course a different ECU. He has 5 tunes on it, I tried reading the website, but I'm not sure I'm understanding it properly. No one at DP-Tuner is answering their phones either. This is copy-pasted from their website "Chips purchased used that are sent in for reprogramming to a new PCM code its a flat fee of $50 to reburn the chip plus return shipping. For different modifications its $25 per each performance tune plus return shipping." Does this mean on top of paying 50$ to reburn the chip to my ECU, that I have to pay 25$ to reprogram each tune since he has single shots?

Secondly, do I need an aftermarket intake to run the tuner? I know, its sounds silly, but I heard one or two people saying that with the increased boost pressure it can "lift" the filter allowing the engine to be dusted. Is this true?

Thirdly, if I was to get a CAI. I was wanting an AFE stage 2 proguard or a Banks CAI, but they are 500(AFE)-300(Banks)$, and a 6637 kit with an AFE filter is about 140$...but I'm afraid of the 6637 kit due to "drone", I do a LOT of highway miles and I work with my truck. I already have a hard enough time hearing my stock stereo! It also seems that the AFE kit, being an open element design would also drone. Then I'm also worried about the Banks system, what filter does it use, it doesnt specify? What do you guys think?

Before you put a tuner or chip in, you need to have a Pyro gauge at minimum so that you can watch your EGTs. If you are not monitoring your EGTs from the manifold, then wait on installing the chip / tuner.

Secondly, I don't know if you HAVE TO HAVE a better intake, but it is certainly preferable to a stock intake. You are going to be increasing boost and EGTs, so you need to be able to cool the engine better. Plus, the demand for more air translates into more power as well. If you are doing a lot of highway driving and are concerned with noise, I HIGHLY recommend the Ford AIS retrofit system for our trucks. Superior filtration, far more air flow, and quiet. Filters last 40-50k miles depending on how much dirt and dust are in your driving environment. The filters were made for our military Hummers over in the sandbox where the sand is similar to talcum powder in size (very, very fine airborne dust). You can usually get the AIS kit with the first filter shipped for about $200.

Keep trying to call DP Tuner, or send an email. They are very helpful people, and deal with you honestly 100%. Whatever the answer is for your burns (my guess is it will be 5 times $25, or I'm sure you could have them remove all the tunes and just burn on 3 or 4 at $25 each), they will need to know all the modifications to your truck as it will affect which tunes to put on for you. Of course, you pick the type of tune such as 80 HP Economy, etc...but there are nuances based on intake, turbo, exhaust, HPOP, injectors, etc.

Turns out DP is closed on Friday...go figure? Anyhow, Ive heard good things about the AIS filter. I didn't think about it possibly flowing more than the stock airbox, I thought it was just a severe duty box. I'll look into it. As regards the EGT probe, I have that I'm looking to buy one in my sig. I'll buy one before I install my box, even if I were to buy one used, I still have to ship it to Jody and would have plenty of time to install my EGT. Ugh, and on the DP tuner, if I buy a used DP setup with the tunes for 400, pay 150$ to retune the tunes and add one I need, plus 50$ to reburn it to my ECU, shipping and handling both ways maybe 30$. Thats 630$. I can get a brand new one the way I want for 633.90 plus shipping...Why would people buy these used? There is no point...

Don't quote me on this but I think the f-6 might be different, since you get the tunes downloaded from your computer on it. It might only be the $50 for a PCM re-burn. I can't speak for dp though. I am thinking thoses per burn prices are for the older f-5 chip. Keep us informed though.
