Hello,
I have a 1985 F250 with 6.9l. Truck runs great, but I recently had to totally bypass the factory stanadyne water separator due to massive air leaks.
Is there a conversion kit out there where I can add a more modern separator?
Or, better yet, can I replace the 6.9l fuel filter head with a 7.3L, which would allow the use of a spin on fuel filter/water separator? (someone told me this could be done..but, I need some expert verfication).
NAPA has a filter and head you can mount where your filter is now, with a little modification. And a 7.3 filter housing will also go in there also. Here's a link for you. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post10152121
You know, if you're just having that problem with the internal valve not shutting off the drain hose 100% the easy way to fix that is to install a shut off valve on the end of the drain hose. When you go to drain it, open this valve first, then pull the ring. Drain it, close the valve.
Thanks for the information guys. I think I will try the 7.3 header, although the NAPA kit looks great too. I am in the Dallas area and plenty of junked 7.3l's in the junk yards around here.
Just fyi on the water separator; yes, I had the drain hose plugged with a valve and that was ok for a while, but it became so hard to start and I eliminated every other possibility, I finally just disconnected the 28 yr old separator and rerouted for staight fuel and it fired RIGHT UP no problems, runs perfect. So, apparently, there was another area on that separator that was allowing air in to the lines that I could not visually observe.
Thank you again....Go Ford!
i'd skip the 7.3 head and go with the napa head and filter at the very least. My filter head used to be nice and dry.....well now it seeps fuel from just about every possible spot......99% ready to delete it and do a frame mounted dual filter set-up. that will give me a water sep/pre-filter, like the napa filter that is in the link, and then a secondary fuel filter. No leaks, more/better filtration, and will clean up the engine bay a touch(mine is a little crowded lol)
That is interesting. I also saw a replacement kit setup from Baldwin Filters that the Dieselmann has on his site. I appears to be set up to totally replace the factory Stanadyne right there on the fire wall in the same spot...maybe have to get a spacer....but, that looks like a real nice option. $95 on the website.
