I can't be the only one. I type in a post or a reply to a post. I use spell check and it finds a few misspellings. I read what I've typed 2-3 times and all sounds OK. I send the post in and a little while later I get notice that there is a reply. I bring up the post and reread what I posted and it reads like I have a first grade writing level. I have missing letters or entire words making my posts look like I'm a moron. I try to go back in and edit the post but many times someone has quoted what I posted. I can edit my original post to make it make better sense but the quote is not affected and still has my mistakes. I know this is not a big deal to most but I am rather sensitive to the way others interpret what I am saying. It comes from time in my childhood when I had speech problems and kids made fun of the way I talked.
Just wanted to vent on a little pet peeve I have about myself.
I've done that too, Bob. And, you're right, a quoted reply makes it permanent, LOL. But, for the record, I've never noticed you make very many mistakes at all, if any, in the time I've been here. I'm definitely no English professor myself, but I do try like the most of us.
but sometimes i read other peoples replies and it becomes obvious that they know how to use punctuation and capitalization but they don't feel the need to do that so i feel like replying in the same manner with a run-on sentence that goes 50 miles without a single period or capital letter which is very hard to understand but yet practically every single word will be perfectly spelled meaning to me that they know the language and were probably taught proper punctuation but they don't feel the need to use it here
You CAN tell the difference between someone who struggles with the language and typing (I have NO problem whatsoever with those people) vs. somebody who is just too lazy or respectful to try to make at least a little bit of sense. I showed one of those big long run-on sentences/paragraphs with not one bit of punctuation or capitalization (BUT yet every single word was perfectly spelled) to my 8 year old daughter the other night. She read it, then turned to me and said "Are they serious?" before she walked off.
LOL, I can relate Bob. You guys probably pass out from trying to read my usual run on sentences and lack of making any sense most times....
We know what you mean..
and I just figured you talked that way from being in Wisconsin too Long!
Now A true story about myself.
I'm originally from Southern Utah and moved to South Dakota when I was about 4-5 yrs old. Went to Church and they asked me where I was from (guess I had a funny 4 yr old accent), I promptly stated that I was from another Country "Utah" lol
Little did I know, I was right. Utah is like an entirely different country
edit, had to edit this post after reading Doc's reply

Reason: Punctuation and spelling
yes, isn't it disgusting how users replying can trap your mistakes in amber forever!!.. makes u almost not want to write anything..
I catch myself trying to fix spelling/punctuation of the quoted text.. My wife is a big vocabulary, perfect word person, and this has really rubbed off on me over the years..
you look at the long run-on posts, and then you talk to the person directly.. and they use punctuation while speaking.. and if they read the post back to you, there is punctuation used, but not visible.
In my 30+ yrs at IBM, part of my job was to bring others along.. and teaching them good writing and speaking skills was mandatory.. I still see myself doing that here, by repeating the posters text in my own words (and sometime I hope this helps other readers too)..
but it sure is easy to make mistakes and have them frozen forever!!

Just quoting you so we have a permanent record in case you screwed up in your original post.
I hear you Bob,
I am not so **** about it because of texting rules today. Most everybody I know does texting and it's hard for me to keep up with them. I know it rubs off here. I do like to make sure my stuff is understandable, but I have confused some before. I don't like that there is no way to put emphasis on texting/typing, because sometimes you can text/type something and it can sound like there is attitude when there is not. Or can be read with a different meaning depending on where the emphasis is put by the reader.
Anyway I can get through most posts reading you guys, but there are some out there that have been tough to figure out! And when those come around, I am not the only one mentioning it! LOL (Laughing Out Loud)
I go back and correct mine a lot. I missed a lot of school from moving around so much,so i have to struggle with it. I just over look bad spelling others put in as it may be the best they can do and i never correct them. But what really bothers me is the text spelling that's used here and other forums . It's okay if you are texting , but if you know how to spell, why not do it ? Some of us are old fashion and don't care for the use of short cut words. Some times i sell parts on Craigs list and some body will text me in my email after i say 'no texting please' . I never respond to them. __

Very funny, very hard to read.
Had to save this for posterity, we can reference this as Doc's standard prose. (Of course I just wrote "prose" and thought it didn't look right, so I put it in word to verify synonyms.)
As a programmer, it is always difficult to look at your old code. I have debugged some code and shook my head wondering who wrote it, until I realized that it was me.
I know i am a culprit of not useing punctuation and capitalization... lol When im on the computer i try to, but when im on my phone i tend to not use it... If you see my post is one long sentence then i am on my phone, which is most of the time now lol ALSO my spelling is horrible at times!!!
yeppers ..... misspelling , and the worst is multiple posts as i'll get impatient and pound the submit reply as it isn't moving quick enuff for me ................... it would help too if i wasn't half asleep a lot of the time !!!!!!!!

I use texting short cuts occasionally in my posts but usually only if I know the short cut is widely know like IMO or LOL. I don't do phone texting at all for a couple of reasons so I haven't gotten familiar with all the different short cuts.. First, I don't really see a use for texting, I'd rather get a direct phome call or leave a message, IMO. Second, I think texting has introduced another form of rudeness to society. I've seen way too many younger people disconnect themselves from the people immediately around them by concentrating on their phones texting non stop to different people. Believe it or not, I've even seen some text to people in the same room!

That's not it, to accurately convey my upper midwest accent I'd have to figure a way to insert my nasily tone. I've been told it's kind of like a goose honking out words like WiscONnsin
