The first 12 years of my education was spent in Catholic schools...then I advanced to junior high...just kidding! I was brought up to believe that proper spelling and good grammar were the hallmarks of an educated and socially responsible individual. I believe that we all have typos and have mispelled words that are unusual or at least not part of our "normal" vocabulary. But what really irks me is the out and out butchering of many common words...one that comes to mind is "probably". How many times have you seen posts with it spelled "prolly"? To me this is nothing more than laziness and maybe the lack of the discipline that came to me in the way of a ruler across my knuckles.
Oh no did I admit to being the victim of corporal punishment? We as a society keep throwing money at education and at the same time insist that we maintain political correctness. It's like having your wife give you $1,000 and then not ask how you spent it, or better yet you telling her it's none of her business when she DOES ask. So now we are seeing a generation of politically correct social media types who have no idea that they are butchering the language, soon we will be reduced to grunts and hand signals or lol's and lmfao's and wonder why we have a communication problem.
For Bob and all the others who posted on this thread there is hope...at least you recognize the issue and strive to do better. God help us all.
.....and I just figured you talked that way from being in Wisconsin too Long!
LOL, my ex's family was from WI and it used to drive me crazy how they all talked in double-negatives: "Are you not going to the store?" How do you answer that?!
I came across a camping trailer blog some guy writes to document his trips. I was really interested to hear what he had to say about an area just east of me. His "blog" was a single paragraph, 2 pages long! I gave up after my eyes started crossing.
Bob, i cant spell ,punchuate , or anything like that, ive always had a learning disabilety, and always been senetive about it. You guys have helped me be not quite so sensetive about things. So i just try to be sure of my facts and go for it. You have one of the nicest presintations for your posts, plus on your personal website, wich is very professional by the way, you shouldent worry about it. Ive never noticed anything wrong your posts. I guess this woud be the perfect time to apoagize for my atroshiss, use of the english language, you can tell when my wife is here helping me with it, and when she isint. LOL
I've had several people tell me I should try texting. I tell them no, because when I watch people entering their text message they are going fast & furious with their thumbs. I only have one hand, one thumb, so everyother letter would be missing in my text message.

My dad is a retired professor of communication. My daughter is a published author & a communciations major. My wife is a school teacher & had a perfect score on the SAT in the language portions. I take incoming diction flak all day long from my beloved group - I catch myslef with dyslexic transpositions in everything I write.
I use Gmail where is the dang spell checker in this thing?
I am amazed at what I see nowadays in respect to basic english text and grammar. I know brilliant engineers that can't write a simple memo or E-Mail that doesn't have spelling or grammar errors.....
I try to type as well as I can, but it really doesnt bother me when other guys use incorrect grammar or spell things wrong. I actually really try to post, how I talk, minus the swearing
I think people worry and focus too much on how others type things out, instead of just focusing on why that person posted (etc) what they did! I TRY my best to focus on content. (I do dislike the "one sentence" paragraphs with only a start and a finish!)
I also find that when I type things out at work, my spelling and whatnot is horrible. With this keyboard you have to jam the hell out of the keys to get it to work!
I do it all the time, and I know how to spell and punctuate. I grew up with English teachers as parents and then married an English teacher. I get corrected all the time...
My problem on here is trying to sound like I know what I am talking about. I can tell you anything about wood, but automotive (trucks) is another story for me. I have always loved them, but just on the fringe of actually knowing how they go back together. And since I have a Chevy 350 in my 52 F1, I am afraid to ask.
i apologize in advance for not using capitals. i can't find the shift key without losing my place on the keyboard. i really don't mind the misspellings as long as i can figure out what people are talking about. some of the homonyms make life interesting around here: brakes:breaks, seems:seams, etc. spell check doesn't really help with those.
