starter problems need help!
I switched from an auto to a 4 speed in my 77' f-150 351m in it. everythings bolted up, went to go start it and i can hear the starter gear spinning. im pretty sure the gear is going past the flywheel. any ideas?

I doubt it could go past the flywheel probably not going far enough. did you get a staeter for a 4 spd? I'm sure the flywheel is a much different thickness than the flexplate in an auto?
you should be able to go underneeth and remove the dust cover to look. if you can reach it try to pull the bendix out to see if it travels far enough or too far.
with the battery disconnected of course

Do you have the right block plate inbetween the engine and trans. Maybe the auto was 164 tooth and the manual is a 157 tooth and the starter is not even getting near the flywheel. What bellhousing did you use on the manual? Did you have to change the flywheel?
