The auto transmission shifter has way too much play, it won't stay in any position out of park. It also won't start, nor will the power windows work.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

While everything was disassembled and the steering wheel resting on the front seat, I moved the transmission shifter from 1 to park and connected the battery to raise the windows. The windows didn't work.
