manuel shifter postion

Hey guys. I'm pretty sure this isn't the original trannie. The problem is in grannie or third, my knuckles get beaten on the dash. How can I lean this handle back? The handle is a long one with a curved bend in the middle. Short of taking it out and bending it, could I repostion it somehow? Thanks for any ideas, Blair

You are going to have to take it out. Heat it up where you need to bend it. I did the same thing on mine.

Years ago, I just used a torch to heat the shift lever right there in the cab, to heat it up, and bent it to the position I wanted. Course it wasn't chrome. Elliott

Years back, I was able to bend mine to better clear the heater control levers by using a 24" pipe-wrench, padded with wraps of rags of course. Just put sideways pressure on the wrench to bend the shift-lever in the right direction to minimize knuckle-bashing?!? Maybe mine was softer than some, but it's never shown any tendency to bend otherwise. Steve
