Had my truck in the shop to get the tranny replaced and when they went to start it, it wouldn't start right away. When they took it for a test drive, it shut off and wouldn't start until after a few minutes. I've had the truck back for 2 days now and I've had no problems...................yet. Could this be the fuel pump? The truck has 132,000 miles on it. Truck ran fine before I took it in the shop but I know fuel pumps can let go at any time. The truck did sit for 3 weeks at their shop before they got to it, but I don't think letting it sit for 3 weeks would cause a problem.
Sitting for a few weeks shouldn't cause a problem, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions about the fuel pump just yet.
I didn't want to jump to conclusions on the fuel pump either. Too much of a PITA to replace. lol! Could it be the inertia switch or fuel filter? I should probably replace the fuel filter anyway.
Just went outside to move my truck and it wouldn't start on the first 2 attempts. I heard the fuel pump hum before I turned it over on both attempts, so I'm hoping that's not the problem. Gonna replace the fuel filter and see if that fixes the problem.
Fuel pumps either work, or they dont.... no in-between. a clogged fuel filter, or poor fuel pressure is most likely the issue. since the filter is cheap to change, do that first. then get your hands on a fuel pressure tester and test the pressure at the fuel rail. it should be around 40-45psi i think....
got out and kicked the fuel tank a few times and it got the pump going again.
it got them back to the shop......
a temporary fix for a permanent problem... hes lucky it did that. all that means though is that pump motor seized bit and just needed to be "woke up" from its rest.
Well, I seafoamed the intake, cleaned the TB, and replaced the fuel filter. I've had no issues since the day after I got it back from the shop. I'm going to clean the IAC this weekend too just for good measure. I really wish I knew what caused my truck to do this. I'm just glad it's running well.
