Im just checking to see if my thoughts are right on my friends truck. He has an 85 F150 with a 300 I6. Well he'll start it up and it'll drive a few feet then shut off. and die. well he'll try to pump the gas pedal to start it up and no fuel will go to the carb. it'll start basically it seems off of fumes. then die. then itll suddenly get fuel and start up without problem. then as he's driving it it'll die again. my thought is the fuel pump. Now i looked at the block and the fuel pump is on the block which means ?mechanical??? if im not mistaken. it seems the fuel pump is faulty. do yall think im right????
Could be fuel pump and or fuel filter. Mine has done this a few times, I remove the filter {side of road} and dump/blow it out best I can till I can get on in and install a fresh one. BTW, the fuel pump on that one is mechanical.
I had to replace the fuel pump on my truck when I first got it.It wasn't hard to do,but what sucks is how long they take to come in.It took my local parts store 3 days to get one in.Hopefully your friend's local parts store will have one in stock.
Also if it doesn't have one before the pump, install one, could be a lot of crap coming out of the tank, especially if the stations around you have recently switched to the 10% blend, it'll be washing out the tank.
