Hey guys Ive been out of truck mode for quite some time now. I need advise on putting a programer or chip in my truck. This is what I have.... I have the early 99 7.3, which i know is bad somehow, and a 4 inch downpipe, and 5 inch exhaust, and 125,000 miles on the clock. Its an auto. What do you all think? I saw this name on another thread, are they any good?Power Hungry Performance - Phoenix™ Chip
My goal for the truck would be a little more power, and SMOKE LOL.
Thank you!
Php tunes are very quality tune. Lots of guys go with them. Dp-tuner is also another big name around here. That is what I have in my early 99. But if you want smoke I don't think dp offers that tune anymore. If I am wrong somebody will chime in. Those two are very reputable, just stay away from "big box store" type of tuner to get the most out of your truck.
Thank you! Can, or will a chip hurt my motor in anyway? Since Ive never had one, I wouldnt know what to expect. Stupid questions I know LOL
The chip or tuner won't, per se, hurt your truck...BUT you might when having too much fun without putting a couple of gauges on it BEFORE chipping. I'd suggest that a transmission temperature gauge, an EGT gauge, and a boost gauge at a minimum.

Just to aid in your choices, are you looking to blow coal because smoke = power, or are you looking to skywrite? The pros are getting really good at coaxing diesel into tire shredding without the currency cloud.
Jody at DP tuner has good tunes for the E99 TRUCKS. James one of Jody workers has an e99 and it runs great. His 140 tune will smoke, but like said most are getting away from that now days. Good luck,
Smoke is an attention getter, the main reason why u are seeing all this Emissions crap on the newer trucks. Smoke doesnt always mean hp. you can get just as much HP without all the smoke, if not more

O i get it totally! I live in CA, so you dont have to tell me about emissions.... Anyone know what my early 99 has as far as stock hp? I did feel I lost some when I went to the 5 inch exhaust. Adding 100 hp must feel amazing.
