which chip or programmer for a 99?

hey guys, i was wondering what yall thought was the lateset and greatest thing out as far as chips or programmers for a 99 f3504x4 dually. 6spd. i had a ts performance chip in it but it crashed and about took the truck with it. luckily once removed all the codes cleared and it straightened back out. anyways i need another one now. mileage stinks, no power, and with the increased load the 5 inch straight pipe is unbearable.

so which chip or programmer would yall recommend?

thanks

What engine do you have. If it's a 7.3 diesel I would recommend powerhungry performance or Dp Tuner. I think they both have gas engine chips/programmers as well.

edit: also list the mods you have (gauges, intake, exhaust). You don't want to throw a chip on a stock truck.

lol! yea i guess i should have posted that little fact. it is a 7.3. i have a 5 inch straight pipe and boost and exhaust temp gauges.

seems ive heard of that dp tuner before it seems pretty popular.

Sounds like your are good to go. Php and dp tuner are very popular. I'm in the process of getting a php chip myself. Also check out the 7.3 section under diesels and there is a chip/programmer forum as well. Computer Chips & Tuners - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

with the last chip , if it was turned up, i couldnt stay in the pedal for long at all b4 the exhauast temp would hit 1100. a very brief time in fact. is that normal? or could that have been a chip issue as well?

It depends what setting you were in. 1200 degrees should be considered red line. You can go a little higher for short bursts. Boost leaks and leaky up pipes can also cause higher egts.

i just replaced the up pipes but i think they are already leaking a little bit. sucky system on these trucks.

even without the chip yesterday i was going 75 uphill in od on the interstate and it got a little etter than 900 deg. does that sound normal? i got the gauges after i got the original chip so i dont know what it was b4.

and on the highest setting for the chip(140 i think) you had about 2-3 seconds b4 it got too hot when you got in it. i figured that kinda made it useless so thats why i thought something might be wrong.

That sounds about right. Here are some numbers someone gave me when I was having issues with my egt gauge:

Cold idle 200* (cold start, idle less than 2 mins)
warm idle 375-400* (truck completely warmed up)
light throttle 0-30mph 400*
normal throttle 0-60 600*
Full throttle 40-80mph 800*
70mph highway stock setting 600*
70mph highway 80e setting 600*
Full throttle 60-80mph 80e 1100*
75 mph 120 race setting 650*
Full throttle 70-80mph in 120 race 1200*
Normal accel 0-50mph 80e 800*
Light accel 0-50mph 80e 700*

If you need help deciding what is right for you give them a call or start a new thread in the 7.3 or chip section.
