Hey there, i have a 95 f150 and my steering wheel is loose. I can turn it about 2 1/2 or 3 inches before it actually starts turning, i no this is a fairly common problem with vehicles that are aged, but i would like to no if there is something i can tighten or replace that will make it normal again. Any info on parts that i can check (for tightness or wear) would be great so i can no what to replace if need be.
Thanks
Start with ball joints and tie rod ends... Check them for looseness.
Have someone turn the steering wheel while you watch for movement at the pitman arm.. if the steering wheel moves quite a bit before the pitman arm moves it may be a worn steering gear.. It may be able to be adjusted if it isn't worn too bad.
I ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY '95 F150 AND I TRIED TO ADJUST THE SCREW ON THE STEERING BOX BUT ENDED UP HAVING TO BUY A NEW ONE, WORKS GREAT NOW!
