I,m going to order a new 302 from ford-motors-engines.com to put in my 89 f150. i don't know which one to order though because i want to put a carb on it. i don't know if i need to get the 87-91 model engine or if it mattered. the engines have good warrenty's on them. i would like to put a cam in it to. that paticular engine has a knock sensor on it. could someone tell me witch motor i need for this swap. thanks
It doesn't really matter as long as it has the knock sensor and the heads are drilled for a thermactor. You may want to spend the extra money for the roller cam. If your going to put a carb on it then it doesn't matter what 5.0 you get. If you get the roller just make sure you swap out your distributer gear with a steel one! Thats all that you would need to do for the swap!
I just found out that they are probaly going to start emmisions testing next year so i guess the carb is out of the question. How much more power does the roller cam make. and could you swap a different cam in and not screw up the vaccum. please tell me how that works and what cam i should put in
Ahh, That changes things a bit. If you not heavily inclined for power I would say stick with the stock 302. If you start upgrading cams and heads your gonna run into problems with the speed density system. I swapped to mass air so it cured alot of the drivability problems that are speed density related....
I've got a lot of questions for you. where did you get your 5.0 from? I'm having trouble with my efi right now. It reves up by it self until you turn it off. Also it won't idle when the a/c is on and gets bad gas milage. what kind of gas milage does yours get and did your motor come with a warranty?
I believe that it came with a 90 day warranty. I wasn't worried about a warranty because it is a new engine rather than a rebuilt one. If your having problems with idle first check for vacuum leaks. Disconnect the vacuum tree at the upper intake and plug it with something. See if that changes anything. If it does then one of your accessories is leaking. If it doesn't then start looking for leaks elsewere with the starting fluid method. Or you may be able to find a local shop that has a smoke machine that you can borrow. That is the best way to find leaks.
I have a 94 F150. I just build a new 302 for it and installed some GT40P heads on it, but have run into a problem with using stock manifolds and having access to the spark plugs holes. Has anyone installed GT40p heads on there F150 with a 302 if so what manifolds or headers did you use to be able to have access to the spark plug holes. thanks for any answers!
