I have the back up sensor in my rear bumper of my truck and I am experienceing very strange issues with it. I know that it is sort of an idiot type device, but I live right smack in the middle of my town and I only have on street parking, so the alarm comes in very handy. It does not work when it is cold. Cold as in below 32 degrees. Works fine all summer, fall, and spring. When cold weather rolls around, it does not work. Any ideas? Very strange..........
Bringing this back up since I got no replies. Not sure what is going on with this crazy thing. Works when it is warm out, does not work when it is cold out. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Bringing this topic back to the top. Temps are dipping, back up sensor not working. Works fine in the afternoon / evening when temps go up, but does not work in the AM when temps are lower. No ice, no snow, no rain, sensors in bumper are clean. Ideas? Thanks!
have you tried change the sensors?
when mine did this, i got hold of a new sensor and started swapping it in place of the ones in the truck until i found the bad one. i was lucky and found the bad one on the second try.
When you say it doesn't work is it completely silent or does it sound a solid tone all the time? Do you know anyone with AE? Park Aid is a pretty simple system consisting of a module stuck to the passenger side footwell with a plastic nail (pretty high up you have to stand on your head), a dash switch and the four sensors. (The speaker is part of the module) One thing to try when it won't work (silent) is remove the pass side kick panel and reach up an wiggle the connector in case the temp change is causing a slight non-contact issue. The way the unit is situated moisture can collect in the female side of the connector. There is a short harness that plugs into the module and the other end plugs into the vehicle harness. If it is emitting a solid tone when there is no obstacle you probably have 1 or more bad sensors. If I had to guess I'd say you have connector issues and you may end up replacing the module and short harness (they come together) Quickest way to troubleshoot it though is with AE.
What is AE? It goes totally silent and the light on the on/off switch in the cab lights up as if I turned it off. It will sometimes give me an intermittent signal.
There are also pinpoint tests in the factory service manual some of which you can do with a multi meter. I would still check that connector first for corrosion. Mine was totally corroded so bad I had to replace the module. Moisture had collected in the connector and ran into the unit onto the board.

I think the odds are that you have a bad sensor. The sensors are located in the most damage prone area of a truck, the bumper.
I suppose it is possible that the module under the dash is causing the problem, but outside electronic sensors subject to weather and abuse, I vote for a sensor.
I'm looking to buy a sensor from a forum vendor, does anyone know who might carry these that is a sponsored vendor? also what the heck are these sensors called or have a part #? I can only look around so long before I turn to the masses for info, thanks.
there are 3 or 4 different sensors. you need to know what one you have.
there should be a part number on the sensor itself if the number has not wore off. or you can go to the dealer with your vin and they will be able to match you up with the proper one.
