K&N Cleaning Kit for S&B

It has come time to clean my S&B red air filter. I have cleaned plenty of K&N's in the past but my first S&B. I have A K&N Cleaning kit and was wondering if there is anything wrong with using K&N oil on the S&B? I know that S&B has their own kit which seems to control the amount of oil being used on any given filter to protect against over oiling. As long I am careful not to over oil any problem with using the K&N oil?

In my opinion, you will be good to go. I've been cleaning and oiling my 2 S&B filters (one for cleaning, one for using) for my Stroke for about 5 years now. Works well.

The oil color is slightly different but that is all.

For me it boiled down to availability. I grew weary of ordering S&B cleaning/oiling materials...while the K&N supplies are readily available at my local AZ or WM.

I would use the K&N oil and not worry about it. I use K&N oil on my Airaid filter and it does fine. I don't know what an S&B filter is but if it's one of the gauze type like K&N or Airaid then I'd say you are good. Over oiling is not a concern on these engines, in fact...I make sure I always have plenty of oil on the filter. My UOA reports come back with silicon in the 5-7 ppm range so it seems to work fine for me.

I believe the over oiling concern is in regards to engines with a mass air flow sensor, which mostly are gas engines. I think I saw that the 6.0 liter diesel has a MAF as well but I am not positive on that...

BTW, I only purchase the K&N oil...I don't bother with the 'kit' because the cleaner is just 409 anyway. I get my 409 by the gallon at Walmart or Costco and it lasts me a long long time.
