HAS ANYONE EVERY CLEANED THEIR K&N AIR FILTER? I CLEANED MINE WITH A K&N CLEANING KIT, HOWEVER, I WAS WOUNDERING IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO SPRAY ON TOO MUCH OIL. WILL TOO MUCH OIL CLOG THE FILTER OR WILL THE EXTRA JUST DRIP OFF? I DON'T THINK THE OIL CAN DRY AND CAUSE THE FILTER TO BECOME MORE RESTRICTIVE THAN A PAPER FILTER. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
YES you can over oil any oiled filter. Take your time when re oiling and only after allowing the filter to completly dry. Oil lightly once and allow the oil to be absorbed and spread, then reoil only the white areas, again lightly. this should be enough. too much oil will cause all kinds of problems with the MAF sensor on gas engines not so much on the smokers but why waste the oil those kits are expensive!
A comment on K&N. Do not use them in areas where there can be heavy dust or sand in the air. The K&N will pass sand. If you doubt this just open up the intake and feel the side of the tube down stream of the filter.
I used K&N back in my GM days. After leaving Utah I checked mine and replaced it with a stock while in Canada.

Well said... I've cleaned K&N filters in the past and just as beontheturtle said, oil lightly. A little oil goes a long way.
I ACTUALLY CLEANED IT A FEW WEEKS AGO, LOOKS LIKE I OVER OILED IT. EXTRA OIL HAD DRIPPED OFF INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER I LET THE FILTER DRY FOR 24HRS. I HAVE THE OPEN AIR FIPK AND I NOW HEAR A WHISTLE SOUND WHEN I SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE COMING FROM THE FILTER. IT LAST FOR ABOUT THREE TO FOUR SECONDS AFTER THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING. IT SOUND LIKE IT IS SUCKING AIR, DOES NOT MAKE THE SOUND WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
I got the K&N prefilter filter wrap for the FIPK on my V10. It not only helps filtering but keeps crap out of the pleats and it also beads water as well. I pull my MAF and check the tube at least once a year, never had any residue at all with the K&N. IMO people blow the whole "K&N passes dirt" thing way out of proportion, at least for a normally aspirated gasser. Oil sparingly, I like the filter oil in the metal aerosol spray can. Avoid the plastic bottle with the drip spout, it doesn't work well for laying down a nice thin film of oil at least in my experience with it.
EEEE on the oil to much screw a few thing up the whistle sound you hear when you shut it down that is normal my does the same thing diesel engine make more sucking sound when shut down the turbo start to whistle till it stops
