Looking at pulling the trigger on a excursion over the weekend. My main question is how quite are the interiors on these things??? Are their a lot of squeks and rattles in back by the barn doors??? Do the barn doors close tight and remain noise free when going over bumps??? Just seems like a lot of plastic in back not to have any squeks or rattles???
Never had a problem with rattles or squeaks from the rear doors....starting to get a few here and there on the passenger doors while going over speed bumps and pot holes...but I've yet to do any mods for a smoother ride and almost at 100k miles. The rear doors are fiberglass. I know there is lots of info on here about a weather stripping mod that you can do, I'm sure someone with more knowledge or who has done it can give you their input
We've got 91K on the clock and really enjoy the ride. Turn on the stereo, bring the kids, hit the road. You'll wonder why you waited so long to get one!
You guys are awesome thanks for the quick replies!!! The reason im asking is i have a 2001 ford explorer sport, its a little rough riding and a little noisy by the back hatch. And im familiar with the door seal mod also, I have an 02 Super Duty. Tell me some cool features about the excursions if you would please fellas???
The doors on mine did rattle a bit (driver/passenger and 2nd row)...but easily fixed with new door seals. The back doors on mine don't rattle, but I'll be fixing those door seals just in case they do.
The 'guides' on the back doors can come loose (easy to tighten and a little RTV can help keep them tight). Also, if you leave the door 'stops' on the back (those black bars that keep the doors from opening more than 90 degrees) can rattle if you leave them undone...the rubber gets loose around the opening and they bounce against something inside the door. The fix: keep them attached to the truck body like the manufacturer designed, lol.
I have an 05 PSD and its quiet as a mouse inside unless i leave something on the floor to roll across my husky liners. I will say though, that I thought I had a squeak and it turned out to be the pivot on the top of my seat belt on the door frame. It drove me crazy but a tiny shot of graphite, no more squeak.
I've only spent a little bit of time in my 2000 Limited but it is very quiet. 112K on it. FWIW my basis for comparison is my last truck, a '97 F250HD (OBS) That thing was loud, 460 with custom exhaust, but also it was creaky, and there were many places where the doors weren't sealed anymore. The 2000 Excursion is like a Lincoln or something, that is the feeling I get inside it.

That's what i like to hear, my old truck was an 02 super duty, and was tighter than vaults at Fort Knox, ( i wanted to insert a differen analogy istead of the Fort Knox comment but i knew better!!! LOL)

1. It's HUUUUUGE!!!
2. The 6.0L 8cyl Diesel, 6.8L 10cyl Gas and 7.3l 8cyl Diesel all pull like freight trains (imo the 5.4l is WAY underpowered for that much truck).
3. It's HUUUUUUUGE!!!
I personally love the ride height. The front springs on 4x4's tend to wear out quick, but the V code spring swap fixes it fairly cheaply (if you aren't into lifts). I'm getting ready to do my own swap here soon. With the addition of a backup camera to take the guesswork out of backing up, the most timid soccer mom can feel comfortable with it.
I came from a 5.4l Expedition, and I did notice a more "truck-like" ride, but still more than comfortable over longer trips (even with bad front springs like mine has). I haven't driven the 2wd model (they have coil front springs), so I can't speak to the ride on those.
You can mod these rigs to no end. Sharing the same frame as the SuperDuty trucks, you can go from mild to wild and do it with many stock parts. An example of something I didn't think I'd ever see: adding a 2nd battery box from an E350 van under the frame rail on the passenger side to add a 2nd battery. These things are like LEGOs!
Being able to put down a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back is impressive to say the least...I remember the first time I did it and people watching in the parking lot of HD to see how I was going to do it.
I get asked about once a week where to get one - folks don't remember it apparently and don't realize it's out of production. After getting mine from a small "mom and pop" dealer and taking it to my local auto mall Ford dealer, they practically stalked me to see if I wanted to trade them in. They are rare to find, and even more rare to find one in good condition, so they sell themselves.
Not too many 7 to 8 passenger SUVs that pull 10,000 lbs and not break a sweat...and look that good!
My '05 is very quiet - on the inside. Drives like a dream; lots of power; very comfortable ride for long trips; plenty of room for everything; not bad fuel mileage ( on mine anyway) and you would be driving the beast of all SUVs. What more could you ask for? OH! And I like the hatch popping up over the two rear doors for loading and unloading anything in the rain. The hach allows for a little protection.

I'm coming from a 56000 mile 7.3 crew cab 4x4, the excursion has the 7.3 also, and it has get this 44000 miles!!!!
