My '05 is very quiet - on the inside. Drives like a dream; lots of power; very comfortable ride for long trips; plenty of room for everything; not bad fuel mileage ( on mine anyway) and you would be driving the beast of all SUVs. What more could you ask for? OH! And I like the hatch popping up over the two rear doors for loading and unloading anything in the rain. The hach allows for a little protection.
Thank you Lisa, for bringing the hatch to my attention, i didnt realize that actually. i'm sure my explorer's hatch does the same thing, just never messed with it much.
That's what i like to hear, my old truck was an 02 super duty, and was tighter than vaults at Fort Knox, ( i wanted to insert a differen analogy istead of the Fort Knox comment but i knew better!!! LOL)
Ah crud, and here I was getting my ban stick ready!
Mine is quiet and I am approaching 203k. No squeaks or rattles - that would drive me nuts.
Cool Feature #1 - It is cavernous.
Cool Feature #2 - Easy to maneuver for a vehicle this size.
Cool Feature #3 - It is based on the super duty platform.
Cool Feature #4 - It holds everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink.
Cool Feature #5 - Can just about fit a bunk of plywood inside the cab.
Cool Feature #6 - Gets better mpg than an SUV of half its size (explorer, etc) diesel
Cool Feature #7 - Did I mention the large interior?
Even at 197k miles, mine is plenty quiet as far as squeaks and rattles but is no where near as overall quiet as the 04 Town & Country that we have. If you have kids riding in the back of the Town & Country you better not say anything you don't want them to hear. I know it's not as far back in the van but in the Excursion, we can carry on a normal conversation in the front and the kids have no clue what we are saying.
140k on mine and it's as solid as a rock. No rattles or squeaks.
6.0L turbo diesel can pull a train
holds the whole family AND the grand parents
can take the whole scout troop in one vehicle
get's better gas mileage than my 5.2L Dodge Durango!
my wife who didn't like driving my old Chevy Tahoe like the Excursion WAY better
huge aftermarket and parts interchangeability with F250/350 Super Duty trucks
44 gallon tank lets you cruise on a 500 mile trip with a single tank of fuel!
At 282,456 on mine, the rear hatch and barn doors have never made the slightest noise. Both of my second row doors would rattle slightly over any sharp edged bumps until a few months ago when I did the door seal mod. Now only the passenger side one does it and it is quieter. Still annoying, however. The body mounts talk around tight turns and sometimes when taking off quickly from a stop. Also annoying, but I've gotten used to it. I may try lubing them soon, but I really don't think there is a permanent fix because the body on these trucks is just so long and flexes so much.
My '03 has 180k miles, it is still pretty quiet, but I do get a squeak on the front passenger door panel or maybe the B pillar area occasionally when there is a passenger there, and sometimes the 2nd row doors rattle when hitting a big bump, but the rear hatch and barn doors seem quiet. Most of my noises come from the front end, which is due for some work.
When I got my Excursion a couple of years ago at 113k miles, the doors rattled quite a bit going over bumps. I did the vinyl tubing in the weatherstripping mod and now it's quiet and feels more solid.
My 2005 4x4 is pretty quiet at 105,000 miles, even when towing a heavy trailer. It has one annoying intermittent squeak in passenger side rear trim (big plastic part around rear A/C and heater blower). I know what it is--a clip that is bouncing inside the matching retainer--I need t chase it down.
