Hello, I've recently perchused a 96 F250 hd And I've got a 351w with a c6 and 4.11s (gas pig) And I want to remove the cat.... for obvious reasons but I've heard you need a new chip to keep the check engine light off? I'm unsure on what to do... my friend did it with his(well his dad dad hahaha) I'm just looking for advice from anybody who's done it or knows anything about it. With my new 35s I'm looking for all the tricks to squeeze anything out of the motor.... thanks
Mike

I have an 89 that has a 351w in my 89 and there aren't any cats on that. No check engine light or anything. I didnt put a chip in or anything.
Where are you located/do you get emissions tested? You probably need that cat to pass.
Do you have sensors after the cat? If so, yes you need a work around, or else you mileage will probably drop. '96 was OBDII, so I *think* it does have post cat sensors.
What kinda mileage are you getting? Lets see if it really is a pig first. And first thing for performance (mpg included), headers. Stock manifolds do not let that Windsor breath. If you need to keep the cat, changing to a modern 3-way high flow will do wonders after headers.

I've got no sensors after the cat Android I've talked to the garage where it will be inspected And I don't need to pass emmisions but they have bad salt in our area so I want to avoid headers because they woill rust out

Get a set of ceramic coated or stainless steel shorty headers. minimal rust issues. I dont have any sensors after the cat, and my truck is OBDI, i forgot that yours is probably an OBDII if that makes a difference at all.
You lucky devil.(emissions) Headers are still step one, just means you need them powder/ceramic coated or have to wash them down in winter. They are the biggest choke point (along with the Y pipe). Next is the cam, cylinder head, and speed density system.
For headers,
Pace Setter 70-2221 are the best fitting LT's for our trucks (specifically at the tranny cross member) and emissions compliant. You may need/ want another o2 bung if you are/want to become a maf truck. (I had this typed up but then reloaded the page to check for edits, so I'll post it anyways.)

Reason: clarity
No sensor after cat=no way the computer will know it's missing. OBDI EFI's just need to keep the o2 sensor, and that's all OBDII's need too (apparently)

What did you run for a system if you don't mind me asking?
The best system I've run so far was a set of long tube hooker headers into a home made y pipe (all 3 inch) then into a 50 series flowmaster, and out at a 45 behind the passenger side tire. At this point im running the same system but with manifolds again because I sold the headers to a guy that paid me more than i bought them for. They also werent coated and I wasnt going to deal with that. still no CEL
Next you'll be telling me it's got GT40P's too. You get so many more options for cam and other performance upgrades, but headers are still first.
