OK, I need too move my subs out of the box behind the third row, my friggin golf club went thru my 12. I got 2 options, either get a box built into my spare tire area, or, my personal choice, put a 10" subwoofer in each of the rear doors. Ive seen the rear doors done and really liked it, but Ive been told it rattles and doesnt sound good. To me that sounds like a poor install. So Im looking for somebody who has done the rear door thing and had it work out for them. Please please tell me someone on here has this and it is possible to make it sound good and work well?

I have had 'bars' over my speakers for years, never had an issue. I have 5 or 6 per speaker, and they are shorter at the top/bottom, so the outside mimic the arc of the speaker. I'll take some pics, here is an example of just 3:
If you get sets of 5 or 6, they are too close for much to get through. Again, I'll post pics of mine here in a little while.
I don't see how any door install will ever be truly free from vibration issues (hinges, the door stop bar, the door guides on the body, etc. etc.
If the box has been working sound-wise for you and have been living without the storage space, why reinvent the wheel when you can just improve it?
You could always just build a down firing box. That is what I did for my expedition. I covered the whole thing in color matched carpet so anyone looking in doesn't notice it is even there. It also allows you to push anything you want up against it and put anything you would like on top.
Truthfully its been bothering since I bought the truck in July. I got the biggest truck around and with the box back there, I have no room. I think im gonna take out the third row seats also. Im getting divorced so Ill probably never need them. Unfortunatly Im a person who enjoys symmetry, spelled wrong, so the 2 rear door subs are perfect if they work. Even My bike would have a couple extra horses but I couldnt stand the one pipe coming our from underneath the saddlebags! LOL

Well if you are thinking of removing the third row, no need to do anything unless you constantly carry gear.
I guess I'm saying for those few and far between times where you need the entire space behind the 2nd row, you can just pull the subs out. As for sound, even with shallow subs, you'll never get the airspace needed to really develop the sound using the doors as enclosures - it's just physics. You can get the SPL, but the quality of the sound can't be generated in that small of a space.
I seem to recall someone posted an 'air volume' chart to calculate the airspace needed to properly develop the sound here somewhere...maybe in the audio forum?
...and you could go trick and maybe make something that goes in the 3rd row footwell. That way, you can keep them in and have that entire space in the back. You may only be able to use 6's to 10's, but it would have great airspace with only 2 or 3 speakers, and you'd never have to move anything to make a true 'fold flat' floor.
Just get a different grill. I have a pair of JL 13w6v2's behind the battery box where the 3rd row used to be. The grills are specific for the sub. Here are the 13's.
Here below is the custom down fire box with a pair of JL 12w6v2's that I had before I went to 13's.
I have a CD changer in there... how easy is that to move, and where would I move it.
A CD changer in the center? Our old 98 Exp had that but our 05 X had the 5 disc in dash, but then we got the double din....I dunno what to tell you about that setup sorry
