TECHS INSIDE PLEASE!

OK here my scangauge readings and as far as I can tell from everything I have learned from you guy everything looks pretty good. MAP 14.6 BARO 14.6 EBP 14.7 with KOEO / MAP 15.2 BARO 14.6 EBP 17.3 with KOER ICP 580ish IPR 22.5 @ Idle normal opt temp. VGT 61% @ Idle normal opt temp. I am seeing average 14psi boost @ 2000rpm and high 20s on hard acceleration. EOT-ECT no more then 6 degree spread around 190 degrees. Cant get EGR to read yet but it is clean and plugged in. Just sent FICM out to FICMREPAIR.COM for repair and is reading 47.5-48v. THANKS ED GREAT SERVICE! So that being said I am still at a lose because my truck is still running TERRIBLE! Checked intercooler hoses for cracks, changed oil 5-40Rotella,fresh Motorcraft fuel/oil filters, blue spring upgrade.Like I have stated before the truck has no power/***** whats so ever! Engine is so scary quiet very muffled sounding. Truck starts fine cold or hot, had it on a Snap-on scanner a while back passed all injector/turbo tests and shows no codes! HAHAHAHAHAH Im loosing my mind with this truck I really luv my truck but I dont no how much more I can take. Yours Truly 1Sick04

Truck has no power,no grunt of the motor so to speak seems like its all rpm and boost but truck wont get out of its own way. Tranny shifts fine, No smoke other than a puff of blue on cold mornings then clears up. Yes like stated above had it scanned and NO CODES! But the fuel pressure I have not been able to find someone to check it for me yet.

loosen the bolts to the cat and go drive it. just a thought. diag on a cat is not easy on these trucks.

I would beg to differ on that. The few trucks I've had where the monolith inside the cat had come apart either set a P2262 and/or would not rev up to 3800 RPMs in PARK or NEUTRAL without just struggling to make it up there. A "love tap" with a rubber mallet will also reveal quite readily if it has come apart inside. Looking at EBP_A readings would also reveal an issue if it were present. Lastly, yes disconnect the downpipe from the cat for a look/see and drive if all else fails as cheezit advises.

Brainfart:
If this is a late-build '04 with an EGR throttle plate, remove the screws that attach the plate to the shaft and drive it, to see if the condition improves.

Also check for air intake restrictions. If the flow restrictor gauge indicates any type of restriction, that would be a good first simple item to address.

Thinking about the quiet idle, I had a handheld code scanner with an optional "emissions rediness test" option. About halfway through this test the engine would quieter down for several seconds, exhaust tone would lower and the diesel clatter would quieter down. Very weird sounding. I may be wrong but I from reading the paperwork that came with the scanner, I got the idea this happened when the EGR valve was being cycled open at idle.

How can the VGT or the turbo be bad if its reading good boost and the VGT seems to be in line according to the Scangauge II? I have tried unplugging the VGT doesn't really change things in my case.

Well If you have heard sorta the same thing I am desperately trying to describe its scary how quiet this thing is. The only other times I have ever heard my truck sound like this was when my Altn died on me last year and killed the batteries while driving and truck got weaker and weaker then died. Second time would be the time i run out of diesel truck weaker and weaker then died. Now it sound exactly like those two times when truck began to shut off but the dam thing just idle and runs but with no power!

Hello,

Not a tech here but this sounds familiar to a problem I had in my 05 shortly after buying it. I even took it to the local ford garage because it was still under warranty. The tech couldn't find anything wrong but admitted that it just wasn't running strong.
My truck had very similar symptoms very quiet, no codes, ran smooth but weak, but mine would not build above 19 lbs. boost. It ended up being the underhood FICM fuze (#12 I believe). I stumbled across it after driving it that way for months and was shocked at the difference it made. I have no idea how it could blow and not throw a code. It hasn't blown since and I have no idea why it blew to begin with.

I will check into that ASAP! thanks for the lead. I did notice this morning on cold start my scangauge ICP was pulling 1280psi @ low Idle is this normal readings never seen it that high before.

I must have missed you posting VGT info (other than at idle which isn't that complete of an evaluation .........), and all you said is that it got to the high boost number, but I am assuming it runs like crud getting there.

Have you done what m-chan68 and cheezit suggeested with the cat?

also - you said you scanned for codes, but what scanner are you using?

Yes you are right it does run like crud getting up to boost# but on the gauge it doesnt lag at all seems to shoot right up to me.... I have no Cat so that theory it out. I had it on a Snap on scanner from a tech that work at a local Ford dealer ship and works on the side. he found no codes and performed a number of Injector,Turbo,VGT,Compression,ICP,IPR, tests and found ZIP....... he was baffled.
