I recently replaced the oem locking hubs on my 1980 F350 Custom 400 cid with Mile Marker Hubs from Summit Racing Equipement. It was an easy fix, here are the pics:
OEM Hub cover removed:
Internal locker pops out:
Internal spring for the locker gear pops out:
Remove Axle snap ring:
Outer locker gear slides out:
This internal snap ring was just floating around in the hub, I removed it:
A look inside the wheel hub with everything removed:
Mile Marker Hub going in:
MM Hub in place:
Putting Wheel Hub snap ring in place:
Stainless Steel MM locking mechanisum (internal type) going in place:
Securring locking mechanisum to wheel hub with 6 bolts (supplied w kit):
I Anti-siezed all the bolts. The part i didnt show was the difficulty getting the old bolts out of the OEM hubs. I had to drill some of them out.
Last bolt (w never-sieze) going in.
Mile Marker supplied this cool little tool to assist in locking hubs in and out. I looked to see if I could buy it seperatly because Im sure I'll lose this one someday but I could not find it supplied alone.
This is my first attempt at posting a repair proceedure. Hope it helps.
Yep, reps for that! You don't know how much I appreciate this. I have Dad's truck in the shop with Ford hubs, which will have to come off to do the brake job I'm starting today or tomorrow. (See thread Dad's Truck Build) But, Rusty is sitting behind the shop with MM hubs on it that I've planned to put on at some point. With the impetus of the brake job and guidance of your how-to I think the time has come.
