Well I got the motor out. While I'm waiting for bolts to put the motor on the stand I pulled the exhaust manifold off and found the problem. The exhaust valve closest to the out side the valve is on top off the piston broke right off where it meets the stem....
here are a couple of pics There will be more to come but not until Monday.
Surprisingly enough there is not a mark on the cylinder wall. The head is definetlly toast tho.
Definetlly glad! I was pretty positive it wasn't my bad but theres always that thought in the back of your head. It already has ARP studs. As of now the piston head and 7 fuel injectors. Customer had asked about doilng both heads so that possiblly. I had already replace #5 injector 4 months ago. Then the hpop, ipr, egr and oil cooler about a month ago. So hopefully his run of bad luck will be over.
I am really leaning towards the injector cause it had all the symptoms of a bad injector and when it was here I was just hooking up the scan tool to figure that out when it locked up. I guess the best thing that happened was it happened at idle.
The glow plugs have not been touched by me they are motorcrafts I would have to guess original unless Ford changed them when they did HG's and studs a couple of years ago. The turbo is in perfect condition, no signs of anything traveling through it.
That's for sure. Customer's friend has an 05 motor that came out of a said"good running truck" the truck was wrecked for $3500 trying to set it up to look at it. I may try to pick up his motor and fix it to sell or put in my 02
I can see the piston and cylinder walls perfectly with a scope and there is no damage as well as nothing in the hole as well as the other 7 holes. The valves are all the way up and do not appear bent. When I had the intake of I had the holes stuffed with rags and am 100% certain nothing entered the engine, every bolt, nut, etc was accounted for as well as paying extremely close attention. I seen some one drop a nut down a 4.3 chevy intake and I make it a point to not risk anything like that.
