Well I have my first locked 6.0 to deal with tomorrow. 06 F450 repo truck. 5 weeks ago I replaced the hpop, ipr, egr cooler, oil cooler. Today he was driving it and started like knocking and had blue smoke like a bad injector. He had it towed in and I hooked up the scanner and started it. It sounded good other then a slight miss and a little blue smoke. So I check the codes, every Injector 1-8 had injector circuit low and only #6 had a contribution/balance code. Thats it for codes. So I go to datastream and the FICM is at 48.4 volts at which point the knocking started and it shut right off. So I got out and checked injector and ficm connections and all was good. I then pulled all the glow plugs and #6 was bent. I pulled the ficm relay and tried crancking again still locked up. I then pulled the belt to make sure it wasn't the A/C and it wasn't. I then had to leave it till tomorrow am. My guess would be a bent rod from a possible stuck injector or broken injector tip?? Just kinda looking for some opinions since I'm still learning about the 6.0 and don't want to over look anything.
I was thinking it should have cleared as well which leads me to believe something more major may have happened. First thing tomorrow I am going to look into the glow plug hole with a scope.
ok I got all the injectors on the drivers side out and they all look good still. I can turn the motor backwards and when I go back forward it still locks up at the same point. I noticed the exhaust rocker arm for number 6 was not moving so I pulled it and the push rod is not bent. The valves look to be ok not bent as far as I can tell with out pulling the head yet. Could this be a cam shaft or lifter problem.
Yea the tip was still on and to my eye it still looks good. Yea it does suck he has put a few thousand miles on since then tho. I can see too much with a scope but my feeling is the lifter came apart, maybe the #6 inj was leaking fuel and caused a hydro lock but I should be pulling the head soon to inspect some more.
Yes sir I pulled all 8 glow plugs. I have a pretty good idea its #6 tho not just because of the code but that cylinder has the only bent glow plug and the exhause side push rod does not move. I am waiting for the customer to explore his options. The motor has to come out and he is toying with the idea of finding another motor, short block, or long block. So we will see.
sounds like something fell in the hole and beat the crap out of the glowplug tip to me. a failed lifter or cam for that matter will not lock up an engine, it would give you one or more low or dead holes depending on the type of failer. also they tend to drop out push tubes and break rockers when that happens.
things some times take a few thousand miles to be ground down far engugh to fit past the valves, this would have happened at the time of repair durring the intake being removed. if it happend after that there would be a large amount of impact damage to the turbocharger.

Bent glow plug, sounds like something passed thru. I saw the after math of a guy that did a EGR block off, in the process he lost a turbo bolt, which found it way thru #5, $5k fixed that.
Wanted to be sure all cyl were clear.
MY WEIRD-S**T-O-METER been pegged a lot of times
I can see the piston and cylinder walls perfectly with a scope and there is no damage as well as nothing in the hole as well as the other 7 holes. The valves are all the way up and do not appear bent. When I had the intake of I had the holes stuffed with rags and am 100% certain nothing entered the engine, every bolt, nut, etc was accounted for as well as paying extremely close attention. I seen some one drop a nut down a 4.3 chevy intake and I make it a point to not risk anything like that.
