Last year i had an issue with it redlining when it was hot out (meaning dieing. it wouldnt bog like a fuel issue, but just cut straight out) going down the road. The last few weeks i have been trying to get this thing to start and every once in awhile it will fire. but last few days it wont start at all. i have replaced the coil, ICM, pick-up inside distributor, and still cant get it to start. When i crank on key, no spark until i let off the key. It sparks once. i have rung out wires and replaced components and this thing is frustrating me. This thing is a good looking bronco and i cant even drive the damn thing. no spark after the coil. dont know if it could be ignition switch, or what. Maybe someone has had same issue. please help. any help is much appreciated.
Any other ideas? I am replacing everything and getting no where. Did all electrical test in chiltons manual and everything is what it is supposed to be.
Older Fords, before computers, the coil received power from two different sources....one for start that was a full 12 volts and one for run that was around 8 volts. Not sure if it would be like that on yours but the problem of wanting to run as you let off the key is identical. May not be different voltage levels but could be thru different contacts somewhere.
Another thing you might try.....provide 12 volts to the coil direct from the battery and see if the truck stays running.
The actual ignition switch (not the key switch) may have failed or become loose and out of adjustment. It should be on the top side of the steering column below the dash edge.
