The replacement fuel pressure regulator puts the fuel pressure back into the correct range spec'd for the injectors. It's not an "upgrade" or "update" in my mind, it's the fix for the problem of low fuel pressure.
To check the fuel pressure, install a fuel pressure gauge/sending unit into the secondary fuel filter bowl (or into a replacement cover) and check the pressure at idle, normal driving, and at WOT. I was idling around 50psi, and was dropping to 40psi at WOT. With the new regulator installed, I run about 62psi at idle and drop to just over 50psi at WOT.
It is a ford "revised" part. Ford revises a part when there was something wrong with the old one and the new part fixes it. Basically there way of saying "we aren't admitting that we made the old one wrong. We are just saying we found a way to make it better."
lol

Ah, and of course, charging you for it all at the same time. Sounds like capitalism, lol
