Has anybody installed a set of the box side steps on their 09+ F150 after the fact? If so how difficult was it? I purchased a set of new take offs from Ebay and need to try to get the on there without instructions. Any hints? Does it take any special hardware that I'll need to pick up?
from what I understand, the steps bolt onto the frame, dont have any experiance with them yet, but the truck I ordered has them and should be in next week (week of jan 9) when I get it I will take a look and post back, seems to be a rare option as i have not seen any trucks out side of marketing photos with them. What size bed do you have, they are only supposed to go with 6.5 or 8 ft beds. There should be holes in frame for this option. I was thinking about going with hard tonneau that also opens from front and thought that these steps would be useful for that option, hope they work well.
I agree on them being rare, I've never seen a truck with them around here. It's one of those options like the backup camera or "man step" that doesn't seem to get added in very often. My truck is a Supercab with a 6.5' bed and the steps I bought are for a 6.5' bed so I should be good to go there.
Quick bolt on sounds easy enough. Hopefully after they are on I can get the stuff out of my tool box without hanging way over from standing on my tire.
Another less expensive option would be W2W steps / bars if you don't have the factory step bars.
I tested the factory bed steps at the dealer, and was not all that impressed with how difficult they were to extend out sometimes. I would imagine that to get worse over time with dirt and water getting into them.
I have seen Em and tried Em here at the dealer. I was thinking of adding them to a 5.5 bed somehow. I am sure it could be done, but not sure of how much modification would be needed. They seem to work ok and are pretty stout.
I just removed the box access steps from my '11 SuperCrew with a 6.5' box. My truck came with the box access steps but no running boards/nerf bars, so I'm hoping to sell the box steps and get some wheel-to-wheel N-Fab bars with the box step built in. With regard to installation, it should be pretty straightforward. There are four rectangular holes in the frame with a circular hole drilled next to each one. There are metal clips with threaded holes that slide onto the frame through the rectangular holes...when those clips are in place, the threaded holes in the clips line up with the circular holes in the frame. Each step should have a couple of bolts that screw into the mounting bracket from the backside. The head of these bolts slide into a couple of holes in the frame of the truck to hold the bracket in place. Once the bracket is in place, you just run four bolts through the bracket and through the clips/frame. The passenger side is quite easy. The drivers side is a little tougher, since there is some stuff in the way (it'll probably be easier if you have the step in the extended position). I took a picture of frame with the step removed and the clips still in place. I'll try to remember to post that picture here this evening.
May I ask what you paid for the steps? As I said, I'd like to sell mine, but don't really know what to ask for them. I've heard to buy them from Ford will run anywhere from $250-$300 per step.

$220 on ebay (new), but I think even that is way too much money for (one) step. You can get W2W running boards which serve the same purpose for less than $440 (= two steps). http://compare.ebay.com/like/3306616..._lwgsi=y&cbt=y
Thanks for the info. So those would be just over $500 shipped for a pair. Mine are basically new (4,000 miles on the truck, and they haven't been used more than a half dozen times each). I was thinking about asking somewhere around $350 shipped for the pair, which I don't think is too out of line, based on the price for a new pair.

Thanks again!
Yeah, I think that sounds like a good deal for somebody who wants the OEM steps instead of W2W steps!
I think on factory order sheet they are 275 for the pair and over the counter list is 300 minus what ever kind of discount you could finagle the dealer for.
Right! That's why I was thinking my price of $350 shipped for the pair wasn't a bad deal. Shipping would be $40-$50 of that $350..they are heavy (guessing 30+ lbs each).

I think that's a great deal, especially for someone with step bars already on the truck, I only need them becaue I'm vertically challenged and am not much taller than a troll!

I'm 6'3", and even at my height, the steps are really nice when you need to reach something towards the middle of the box, or when you don't want to lean up against a dirty truck to get something out of the front of the box. I laughed at them when I bought the truck, thinking that I'd never use them, but after using them just a few times, I'm definitely sold on having a step to access the box easier. I laughed at the tailgate step too...until I used that a few times, and realized how much nicer it is than trying to step up onto the tailgate without it. I must be getting old.
