I imagine they would be much easier to mount up if you remove the step from the mounting bracket. It's only 2 bolts and 2 nuts and it slides right off. I took mine off for the winter since they just freeze in there solid anyway.
Only reason I got them was every truck they had on the lot had the things. That and the tailgate step. I guess it's a more popular option up here.

You're probably right about removing the step from the mounting bracket. I was able to remove the entire step and mounting bracket without doing that, but it may be a different story when trying to mount them back on a truck.
I'm 6'3", and even at my height, the steps are really nice when you need to reach something towards the middle of the box, or when you don't want to lean up against a dirty truck to get something out of the front of the box. I laughed at them when I bought the truck, thinking that I'd never use them, but after using them just a few times, I'm definitely sold on having a step to access the box easier. I laughed at the tailgate step too...until I used that a few times, and realized how much nicer it is than trying to step up onto the Tailgate without it. I must be getting old.
Chevrolet marketing screwed up big time when they had Howie long make fun of the " man step" , that step looks to be useful to me just in every day or even weekend use as it's almost painfull to get in the bed and makes it much nicer to use the truck.
May I ask what you paid for the steps? As I said, I'd like to sell mine, but don't really know what to ask for them. I've heard to buy them from Ford will run anywhere from $250-$300 per step.
$350 a set shipped to me. These are brand new take offs, the truck was never driven off the lot with them.
My truck came with them. At first I thought "Who needs them?" but since I have I use them. I have a gull wing tool box and the steps make live so much easier. I would order them on any till they are no longer offered. Once installed make sure you don't leave them in the closed position after mud or ice accumulation, they will stick. Wash them off and open and close a couple of times. I had one that was stuck so bad I had use a hammer to free up. Chris
I just picked up a set of steps ($150 + $50 shipping) and need some help. Can anyone take a picture of up inside where they attach to the frame or just look and tell me if I have the sides correct?
Up top where they attach to the frame the metal bends toward one side. I am guess they toward the rear of the truck. If so this step would be on the drivers side. Thanks in advance.
That looks like the driver's side to me. Put mine on yesterday morning, the first side took just over an hour...the second time took about 15 minutes.
Did you get the other bracket and all the bolts/u-nuts with your steps?
The seller could not find the bolts and my dealer could not look them up for some reason? I called Dave at TrueBlueRacingParts in PA, very nice guy, he called engineering and came up with the numbers for them. Eight W506433S439 and Eight W707369S439 . I am not sure of what you mean by outer bracket?
Any hints you can pass on so it takes me 15 minutes per side?

The biggest hint I can give you for getting them done in the 15 minutes per side is to have a helper there that can start the two bolts toward the rear of the truck going to the frame, the steps are a pain to hold up with one hand and reach still reach up to start the bolts.
The other bracket I mean is the bracket that has a single bolt with a 15 mm hex head that is bolted to the step, then it comes up and away from the frame....there are two bolts that bolt to an underbrace of your bed...toward the cab side. You will need two additional u-clip nuts and bolts to bolt that to the bed as well. It gives the step more rigidity by putting some force in the opposite direction.
My new to me 2010 has one on the drivers side, but not the pass side. When I asked to salesman about it he said they only came on the drivers side. I guess it shows how much he knows about the trucks he's selling. I thought it was odd that they didn't come for both sides.
So now I know that if I can find one for the pass side, I can have them for both sides.
Has anybody installed a set of the box side steps on their 09+ F150 after the fact? If so how difficult was it? I purchased a set of new take offs from Ebay and need to try to get the on there without instructions. Any hints? Does it take any special hardware that I'll need to pick up?
These are what I'm going to be adding
I did, really wanted them when I bought the 09, but the choice was 2V engine with steps, 3V engine without... So I made the correct choice and got the 3V engine.
Then bought the steps after market (FORD), all the hardawre came with them, NO holes to drill, takes about 10 minutes to look at it and visualize it. but it was easy.
When I ordered mine I noticed a different part # for different bed lengths, don't know what the difference is...
Addtionally I added a flip down bumper step, since I have a tonneau cover I use it alot more than the bedside steps. But when you need to reach something w/o climbing in the bed the bed side steps are great..
there are two tonneaus out there that also open from the front and that is why I ordered the side steps for the most part, every thing winds up in fornt of bed anyways and front opening tonneau makes sense to me!
