Any good 460 EFI mods out there?
Hey all, I just bought a fairly nice 90 f350 Crew. It has a 460 and a 5 speed, and 3.55 gears. It has about 118,000 on it, and it runs strong. So far I have tuned it up with new plugs, cap, rotor, set the timing at 13.5*, installed a drop in K&N filter, and insulated the factory airbox and tubing with Remflex insulation and aluminum tape. The truck also has true dual 2 1/4 inch exhaust with glasspacks. I have gotten 8.7 mpg at worst and 11.9 at best. I am fairly happy with the performace of the truck, but I would like to improve it some. Namely the exhaust. It sounds ok at low rpms, but at higher rpms it is really rappy and feels almost like the exhaust is holding it back. What would be a good working system for this truck? I would like to put on a good set of headers, but I am not sure whether to go with a dual 2 1/2 inch, single 3, or dual 3. Anyone know what would work/sound the best. I would like to retain some low end torque, but I would trade alot for some more topend power. Its not like a 460 is lacking for low end torque. Any good ideas would be appreciated!!

Funny story about timing with this truck though. When I bought it, I noticed it was totally dead over 2,500 rpm. When I test drove it, I thought it must just need a good tune up. But coming home from buying it, I could hardly keep 70 on the freeway. A couple days later, I went to set the timing and found that the inline SPOUT connector was gone. I bumped the timing to 13.5 degrees and put a jumper wire in the connector, and it felt like it gained about 50 horsepower!! I couldn't believe it when it revved to 4,000 rpm!! LOL! The next day, I called the dealer and got a new connector. The guy who owned it before me thought it had power like it was. He was sure missing out for the three years that he owned it!!

The EFI engines are roller chain also. One of you guys wouldn't have an extra E4OD capable ECM around? Scotty at Reincarnation performance did some testing on the F3TZ heads and found they flow quite well and respond to porting. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area where you are exempt from emission testing and controls due to age of your vehicle, the catalytic converters are a major restriction on these engines.
