03 F150. My driver side mirror glass is cracked so I bought just the glass off eBay. I don't want to remove the whole mirror, I just want to remove the front cover so i can get to the guts to remove the glass backer plate and bring it in the house to adhere the new glass....its cold here...so i don't think the glue will set up right.
Is there any tricks on removing the front cover without breaking it?
There are two pins which are threaded and go into the motors and provide the angle and up and down. then there is a ball socket right in the middle. Basically just pull firmly and it should pop out. To put it back together insert the pins, get the socket lined up and pop it firmly with your palm while holding the back of the housing with your other hand and it should go back together.
unless they changed the design from the 97. I know i pulled one from a lincoln and it was completely different.

So i don't have to remove the front cover to pull the mirror then?
He is correct.
I replaced mine with turn signal mirrors but it's a PITA!
I took off the hole mirror from the truck to work on it and used a flat pry-bar to pop the old one out. Kinda scary..lol

After you get it out, you''ll be able to take it in and glue your new glass on the base.
