As for your problem Donna, the first thing to try is a system restore as mentioned above. While it is booting up, as soon as you see the boot screen, start tapping the F8 key. That will bring you to a system restore screen. Once there, you can start that. It will restore the system to a previous date before the "MyCleanPC" virus took over your computer. It will only restore the system, it will not harm any data you have like pictures or emails or whatever. You can also try booting into "Safe Mode" which only loads the bare minimum files needed to get Windows up and running. Once in safe mode you can go into the "run" folder, and delete anything in there that says MyCleanPC. Or use windows explorer to look for a folder that says MyCleanPC and delete it.
If your desktop is not too old, you can take the hard drive out of the laptop and connect it to the desktop and then be able to transfer any files you want to keep before doing the recovery. However, you or Jimmy may not feel comfortable opening up your computers to do the swap, and the desktop has to be new enough to have the same hard drive connector as the laptop.
If you have the recovery disks that came with the laptop you can use them however, that would be a last ditch effort to get it going as using them will bring the laptop back to the way it was when you first got it, and it WILL erase everything.

There are a couple of other things that can be tried, however, it is a lengthy process to describe. Again, I wish I lived closer, I could get it taken care of in person much quicker than through a forum post, or PM.
There is another option. You mentioned you were going to take it back to the repair shop and have them get your data off, then trash it. Instead of doing that, you can have them get the "MyCleanPC" files off, so it won't start that program. This way you keep your data files, and get to use the laptop.

Have a Nice Day
Have a great Thursday!
Today is late start for the kids, so I could've slept in, but I'm in a schedule & I don't want to screw it up.
Besides, I have alot to do today (atleast it seems like it anyway). Atleast I did the dishes & tidyed up around the house lastnight so I'd have the morning free for other things.
Now to just get motivated & get going!Have a good day!
TTYL...
My mom just got her first laptop. It's an older Lenovo Thinkpad, given to her by a good friend of mine who works IT for a bank. They simply throw away older laptops when they start to have problems, so he scored a couple of them in recent months. He brought this one home, wiped the HD and installed Ubuntu, which he runs on his own laptop. It's much more streamlined than Windows, very intuitive to operate and there are plenty of programs available for it, all free (as is Ubuntu as it's open-source software) and so far, she's really liking it. My buddy said that it made his own older laptop really fast. I'm even thinking of dumping the old Win XP that's on my own laptop and putting Ubuntu on it.
Donna, that might even be the salvation for your laptop.
I'm going to try to do the F8 thing for the safe mode & hopefully delete the problem! I'm kinda thinking it's more of a Windows thing too though, so who knows if it will work?! Anything is worth a shot at this point. It's not like I can do any more harm.

I've never heard of Ubuntu...what is it? Like Windows or more like Mozilla Firefox? I'm almost afraid to try something new anymore cause I always end up with problems. UGH! I might check into it though.

Thanks again

Donna, Ubuntu is a operating system like Windows. Without some kind of OS on a computer it is nothing more than a large paper weight, or doorstop.
