I installed my new Dv3e heads on my 73 f250 and when I started it I thought I magically got a rod knock.

Turns out a rivet or something fell inside the motor and was knocking against the head. Which could only be found by tearing the whole motor down.

So I have a dented piston.

But I spent the $75 on the gasket set and bolted it all back up. If the piston decided to go from a dent to a hole I guess only time will tell. But at least it will run without knocking.

Long day tearing down and cleaning just to put it back together.

I wish I would have known it was a rivet from the beginning I would have just fished it out the spark plug hole.... Oh well.

Are those pistons forged, or cast?

Hope it don't go boom on you. No valve damage?

It stuck to the piston. Didn't bounce around. No damage to anything but the piston itself (the head sustained no damage). I checked the valve seats and everything. The pistons are pretty thick. Didn't punch a hole through the piston. So Im just going to run it and see what happens.

Its my beater truck. I only paid $300 for it. It has a swapped 460. It was missing (miss firing) when I bough it. I couldn't figure out why, I checked everything. Pulled the heads and found the valves were WAY up in the head. I never noticed some of the valves sat so much higher than the others. They were the crappy open chamber D2ve heads. So I bought a set of D3ve heads for $100 and spent $500 getting them rebuilt.

Put it all together and had my "rod knock" let it run for maybe 30 seconds while I pulled plugs seeing if I could stop the knock. Never stopped so I tore it down thinking my pistons were hitting the head, or I had a bad wrist pin. Turns out it was that pea sized rivet smacking the head.

So I bought the new gaskets and put it all together. I have had to replace every bit of rubber on the truck. The heater core etc. I still need to redo all the suspension rubber. Its kind of my keep me busy until I leave for the navy project. I cant play video games on the computer anymore or sit around doing nothing. So it keeps me busy.

Morning SoCal!

Well I'm back out on the leftist coast this week (sorry guys...I know I'm in your back yard...lol)...took a little longer than normal to get here due to a flight delay...I hope that isn't a sign of how this year is going to go travel wise!...but it's all good...I'm here!

Hope everyone is easing back into the work week this morning!

Have a great week!
Joe.

Enjoy the weather while you're out here Joe. Delays are a part of the air travel game in any year.

Any of you guys know of a good place for plastic model cars other than ebay? Looking for a 1971 Boss Mustang and a 1973 Mustang.

No, not build your own.

But this place is pretty cool for a wide selection of die cast classics:
