Labor on just head gasket alone can be 1500-2000 and another couple hundred in parts....if you went new heads you could probably tack on another 500-1000. The tranny you could probably find for 500, but you pretty much need a donor truck to make the swap smooth, which could take a couple days to complete. That's the way I see it, others can correct me if my numbers are off
I bought 2 rebuilt heads from clearwater cyclinder heads for about $350 apiece plus shipping. Then the gasket set and valley pan set for around another $180 so about $900 in parts. I did all the work my self so no labor.
To do the trans swap a donor is defently best. This gives you the small parts that could add up fast. I swapped mine over from c6 to t18 myself so again no labor price and I found the trans (along with the body I swapped) for $800. One of the reasons the labor is so high is the fact that a mech that knows anything about these old rigs knows enough to pull the entire engine. Those heads are heavy akward so the time to pull it is well worth the effort.
