Difference between Bilstein 5100's and HD shocks

Does anyone know what the difference is?
I know that the 5100's come with the plated finish and they can accomodate up to a 2 inch lift.

They are both gas shocks, but are the internals any different?

I was hoping that someone had experience with both shocks?

I don't have experience with both, but I always order the HD or 4600 series (I think that's the number?). They are much less expensive and I have had them on the last two trucks. I like them just fine, especially when you can spend less than $200 and get all 4.

Thanks for the response. I had the HD's on my last truck and loved them. I'm just trying to figure out if the extra $30 or so per shock is a good upgrade or if I'm basically just paying for the zinc-plated finish.

I've had both on my F350 and I couldn't tell you the difference(ride wise) between them. If you live in a salt region, I'd opt for the 5100's as they seem to be holding up much better to that crap.

Go to Bilstein's website for the differences between the 4600 and 5100 shocks.

4600 Shocks:
4600 Series - Light Truck/SUV

5100 Shocks:
5100 Series - Lifted Light Truck/SUV

From what I can determine, the difference is that the 4600 shocks are for "stock" height vehicles but the 5100 shocks are for "lifted" vehicles and has the zinc finish. The internals appear to be the same.

Yup....I went through this. Basically the same shock except the finish and the fact that the 5100 front's allow for 0-2 inches of lift.

Where have you found all four for under $200? I need to buy a set and cheapest I've found a set for is $274.92 at AJUSA.com.
Thanks

If you have a 2 inch level kit then you need the 5100s (the zinc plated ones)

If you did not have a level kit then you could get the 4600s (the yellow and blue ones) or the 5100s

I was under the assumption that the 5100s would raise the truck up to 2 inches.

I must have made a typo. Here is a link to the site I choose to order from.

Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com

All 4 for under $300
