ttb tire wear

why are both of my ttb trucks wearing the curbside steer tire on the outside edge of the tread. they are both wearing the exact same way. both have new ball joints and bearings and I set the upper adjustments back to where they were. I realize I need to get both rigs aligned but obviously this has a cause and I am curious as to what is causing this wear. This has to be a common prob if I own two. somebody has had to run into this. btw 82 and 89 F150 's

That needs to be done!! Especially after any parts have been replaced!!!! All kinds of funny things happen when the alignment is off..

Make sure you take it to a real frame and alignment shop, most shops only have the ability to do toe on the ttb, that's all their little computers will tell them they can do.

Sounds like positive camber, \ (top of tire pointing out) your truck may not have adjustable camber caster bushings from the factory. So you need to look if you have the adjustable bushing so the shop can dial in your specs. OUr TTB trucks (just guessing) are a PITA for shops as the toe is the easiest to adjust.

Take it to a good shop (I took mine to a goodyear) and get it aligned. The camber is the main thing with the TTB.

What is the "curbside steer tire"? Is this an industry term I am not familiar with?

Outer edge wear of the front tires is "normal" for these trucks, the only way to limit the damage is with frequent tire rotations. The geometry of the TTB suspension produces increasing amounts of positive camber \--/ the further the wheels are rotated from on-center, crank the wheel to full lock as you roll ahead slightly and you'll see what I mean, the only part of the tires touching the ground are the outer edges. Now couple that with a tires tendancy to roll under the vehicle in a corner and you have a perfect recipe for accelerated tire wear.

streetside and curbside, sorry fire apparatus industry term.

Conan, i did notice the camber issue in the turn. It seems worse when turning left on the outboardside. that combined with the shot balljoints trashed my rubber.

both trucks have the degree'd bushings. and the guy I talked to has a bucket full of various ones. just need to get it in.
