Does this wire go to anything?

86 302 efi. Under the air pump I have a yellow wire that ends in a grey female square connector. It is in with a big harness of about 10 wires or so, but it is by itself.

Is that in the same harness that goes to the alternator? If so it is the stator output that would be used for the choke on carb'd motors.

I do believe it is the alternator harness as it runs under the air pump on the passenger side and goes under everything else as it heads towards the driver's side. Also since the wire has never been connected for as long as I can remember it would make sense that it would be choke related.

I thought the choke wire was white/black?

I don't know. I looked at the wiring diagrams in my Haynes manual and there are a lot of yellow wires.

Dirty/oily white could look yellow. Especially something this old...
