I have a 2010 F150, 4.6 L, manual windows and locks XL. Is there any way to deactivate / disable the smart key feature, so an ordinary 89 cent key from the hardware store will work in the ignition? Where I work we have a 2006 F250 that has somehow been made to where a regular key will work but our mechanic at the time we got the truck no longer works here.
I am not worried about my truck getting stolen, security system discounts on my insurance, child lock stuff, etc.
I would be grateful for any insight,

F-Super Duty trucks didn't get PATS until MY 2008. That F250 never needed a security key.
PATS can be turned off by tuners, but otherwise, it cannot be bypassed except with a key that has been programmed into the system. The antenna that reads the RFID chip in the key is located as a ring around the ignition key cylinder mount. Any cheater key would have to be close to that position unless the antenna were relocated.
Some earlier Super Duty models had PATS key, such as Harley Davidson and King Ranch models, but most average models had no securilock system prior to 08 as mentioned so your mechanic friend likely didnt do anything to bypass it. You can get a PATS key fairly reasonable and if you have two already programed you can program extra ones yourself.
