didn't do it this morning, so I don't know what to say. it's not the door, because it goes out when the lights are turned off. Last year it only beeped until I swapped out the headlamp, then no more beep, so I 'assumed' that it was a design feature for my truck.
started it 1/2 dozen times today, no beep. It's apparently possessed, but it runs fine so whatever... I can't check the rear lights cause it's a standard- I need somebody to help me out. No e-brake anyway, another project in the waiting. Not the door, cause the doors were all shut (it was 18 degrees last night :-) and it's not the lights-on/key-out because it was beeping while I was driving, in the dark, and couldn't shut it up!!
I'm thinking perhaps key cylinder. That's really sloppy anyway, sometimes I have to line up the silver turn-ring when you put the key in or the key can get jammed in misaligned and it wont turn. (I just leave the keys in it usually, nobody here wants to steal this beast)
Sounds like a new key cylinder (~$12) wouldn't hurt and it may even fix your random beeping.
You can still check the reverse lights, just put it in reverse instead of first (or whichever gear you park it in) and turn the turn to acc (not run, just so radio comes on)
hey- the acc, reverse thing is good to know!!! THANKS!
the cylinder will have to wait till next spring, it's too durn cold to be playing out there this time of year what with no garage and all...

What is so hard about taking a SMALL screwdriver, pushing the lock pin in, and turning the key a tad and pulling the cylinder out?
Literally a 2 minute job.....
And the replacement cylinder simply slides in, and when you turn the key...The pin pops out, locks the cylinder in place and is DONE...
There is a hole on the bottom of the steering column.....You can't miss it...
if the truck doesn't beep anymore, it will be spring before I do that :-)
it's 9 degrees out there, and the truck doesn't do heat... but that's another story.
but now that I have the directions, I will add it to the list.
Its super eeasy and quick to swap out the key cylinder as Wes said. Just make sure that you do NOT turn the new cylinder at all until it is installed into the steering column. Little pins will shoot out if you do.

Sounds like someone figured that out the hard way lol
