Greetings
My 49' Mercury has stock 16" wheels. I have the original hub caps but I'm afraid to use them. If I lost one I dont know how I would replace it. But thats my problem.
My question is, Do 15" and 16" wheels use the same size hub cap?
I can find plain polished hub caps for 15" truck wheels.
I don't know about which caps fit which wheels, but I am very interested about the subject of Mercury hubcaps. I think that you are wise to safeguard the caps that you have. I have only two Mercury caps for my 52 M-1.
I think you can find Mercury car hubcaps that will fit your truck if you look on ebay. They won't be original, but at least they will look good.
Will you please take a picture of one of your hubcaps? I am curious.
This is what my caps look like. I filled in the red Mercury logo with reflective tape. This tape could also be applied to plain polished caps.

To answer your question Dave ( 49m47 ), Yes the 15 and 16 inch rim use the same size cap. ( I just went out to the garage to double check my 15 inch rims. ) And Jim don't give up finding two more hubcaps. They still seem to show up. I'll keep an eye out for you at the swapmeets here in southern Ontario. Greg M47
Hey C&C, don't give up. Like I said earlier they keep on showing up. I know of a set that are having the dents taken out of them. Heard about them when I took some fender stainless for some dent removal and buffing. Was told they were extra's that the guy might offer up for sale. Probably won't be cheap though. Hi to you too Dave. Put the caps on. They won't fall off. The only thing you need to worry about is some one removing them. Seems like all the caps are dented from banging them on and then prying them off. I'm stll searching for some kind of removal/installation tool that won't dent the hubcaps or mark the rims. Anyone have a solution ?? Greg M-47
Finding parts in the St.Louis area is tough to. Most people around here dont believe that Mercury ever made a truck. I've been accused of taking an old Ford and changing the label. As I said to those Accusers " Thems fightn' words"
I'm always looking for misc stuff too.
Hey Dave, I think I told you about the old guy here in town that acused me of making up a Mercury truck and mine was built a couple hours away in Windsor, Ont. so the non believers are everywhere. Good thing for sales booklets for proof. I'll keep you in mind C&C when I'm making the rounds at the swapmeets. You won't be the first FTER that I've found parts for. Greg M-47
When Greg makes a promise, he keeps it. He has helped me find a Mercury radio delete plate for 51/52, so far. He still keeps a look for other Mercury parts for me. Thanks, Greg!

I almost bought a 54'. It was for sale at Country Classic Cars in IL. I went over and looked at it. To say it was in bad shape would really be a complement. I watched it for a year while I built my garage. I called the guy and went over on a Saturday morning to look at it. I couldnt believe how much worse it got in one year. I talked myself out of it and went home. My kids beat me up so bad for not buying it that I called him back that Monday. When I didnt buy it Saturday morning, some one else bought it that night. Can you believe it. I watched it for a whole year. Looking back, I'm glad I didnt get it. I paid a lot more for the one I got but its compete with extras.
God was watching over me again.
Thanks for the kind words. Nothing I like better than finding that missing part at a swapmeet. I've got everything that I need to finish off my 1949 M-47 Mercury so hunting parts for other people gives me a reason to go to swapmeets. I'll keep looking. Greg M-47
