I need to get a new gear shift for my zf6. i was wondering are the short throw shifters worth the money? and where can i get a factory gear shift from?
Can't help with the short shifter but I got a factory shifter from a junk yard for like 30 bucks. Other than a junk yard I'd say a dealership is your only option.
the short throw shift is worth every penny makes for such cleaner shift because of the lessened throws
also so you know the short throw doesnt replace the long tube that is inside the truck it is the part on the trans
so if u need the stick itself then the short throw will not help you
If you plan on installing the under-dash gauge pod, knows the time to "modify" the shifter for clearance. Use the end of the shifter that bolts to the "snub" thats protrudes from the trans (the shifter itself is no more than slid over a rubber grommett), and using the bolted piece, weld yourself a rod to it...(take a look at my garage pic of what i mean).
Last I herd they no longer made the short throw shift kit and just now trying to look up their website that was linked from a post about their shifter their page no longer exsists and or the buisness no longer exsists.
However there is a Midwest transmission Supply that specializes in diesel performance http://www.midwesttransmissionsupply...?manu=2&cat=13 but they are located in NE and the place that had the short throw was located in MN. So i dont think it is the same place and they do not seem to offer a short throw kit.
i got mine last year...i had to call and they were in the process of making more. took like a week...but as Jim said...well worth it. tightened up the shifts and i wont throw out my shoulder shifting into OD
Well I just want a stock shifter just to have one and i am looking into buying short throw shift kit. I have a tall shifter that i made on it. Will post a pic if a can figure out how to off my phone.
